Attendance

Special Absence Request

We are aware that there are some special and exceptional circumstances when your child may not be able to attend school. If you would like to request an absence please complete and print the Special Absence Request form (below) and return to the School Office.

Attendance and Punctuality

Henry Cavendish Primary School aims to encourage and assist all pupils to achieve excellent levels of attendance and punctuality. We recognise that there is a direct link between regular attendance and good academic performance. Pupils need to attend regularly if they are to take full advantage of the educational opportunities available to them. Irregular attendance undermines the educational process and will lead to educational disadvantage. We therefore have a strict policy on attendance and punctuality.

Rights, Responsibilities and Roles of school, pupils and parents/carers

Henry Cavendish Primary School will work closely with parents should attendance or punctuality give cause for concern. We expect and encourage pupils to have good attendance and to arrive on time.  Pupils will have individual records of attendance/punctuality acknowledged by the school.

Parents are legally responsible for ensuring their child’s regular and punctual attendance. Parents are responsible for immediately informing the school of the reason for any absence in person or by phone call or email on every morning of absence. This should be confirmed in writing when their child returns to school. will avoid arranging family holidays during term time. Parents can expect the school to keep them fully informed of their child’s attendance/punctuality record.

Please see the home page for this week's attendance for each term.

School Start and End Times

Children should be in the school playgrounds by 8.55am when the first bell will be rung to line up. Class teachers will collect their classes and take them into school ready for registration at 9.00am when the second and final bell is rung. Please see below the procedures for lateness.

Between 9:00am and 9:05am:  Children will be marked as late (L) in the register with the time arrived marked in.

After 9:05am: Pupils and parents must report to our school office to collect a red late slip which the child gives to their class teacher. The parent/carer must provide a reason for lateness and the child will be marked as late (L) until 9:14am when the register closes.

Between 9:15am and 9.29am:  The pupil will be marked as late after the register closes (U) on the register

From 9:30am the child will be marked as absent (unauthorised) for the whole morning.

Red slips are kept by the class teacher and shared at parent/carer consultations.

If a pupil arrives after registration closes 10 times or more in a half term period, the school will ask Lambeth’s Courts officer to serve a Penalty Notice of £60.
