Henry Cavendish Summer Fun Activity Week

This year we are holding our Summer Fun Activity Week for the first full week of the holidays, Monday 24th July – Friday 28th July at our Streatham site.
Activity Week consists of a carousel of varied activities which will include a range of sports, cooking, crafts etc. for the children to enjoy. Children will need to bring a packed lunch every day and Year 4s and 5s will need a swimming kit for Monday and Tuesday.
Please book a place using School Gateway from Wednesday 28th June until Sunday 2nd July. We will be giving first priority to families who book for the entire week any remaining places will be released on Tuesday 4th July until Saturday 8th July. Every family who books a place for their child/children will also need to complete a booking form (one for each child) – once you have booked your place online, these can be collected from either school office and must be handed back by Friday 14th July.

Lambeth Cycle Training
Lambeth Council with Cycle Confident is offering FREE cycle training courses for children from 5 years upwards in Brockwell Park and Clapham Common throughout the summer holidays. There are complete beginner courses, intermediate courses and road skills courses (for 9 years +) and all training takes place in small, friendly groups with 2 fully qualified instructors. Courses are now open for booking and places are reserved on a first-come-first-served basis. Multi-Sport Holiday Camps
Moving Matters hold multi-sport holiday camps for children aged 5 to 12 during school holidays. The sports include football, basketball, dodgeball, tag rugby, handball, cricket and table tennis. The camps are being held at Elmgreen School, Tulse Hill.

Barracudas Kids Camps
Barracudas Kids Camps in Streatham & Clapham offers fun activities during the school Easter and summer holidays. Based at Streatham & Clapham High School for Girls, children can make new friends, try new activities but most of all have lots of FUN! They offer a safe and well organised programme for local children to enjoy.
Sessions run from 8.30am to 5.30pm but can be extended using the early and late clubs.

KeyNotes Music Lessons
From September 2017 KeyNotes Music are starting up group and music lessons at La Retraite School on Saturday mornings. The aim of the lessons is to provide more accessible opportunities for children to experience a meaningful and exciting piano and music education.

Soft-Ball Cricket for boys and girls aged 8 to 14
The Buzzers Soft-Ball Cricket course is for boys and girls of all abilities and cricketing experience. The sessions is run by highly qualified (ECB level 2 and higher) and vastly experienced cricket tutors. The emphasis will be on FUN and LEARNING as opposed to competitiveness. The sessions will be based indoors, using soft-ball cricket equipment (rubber ball and plastic bats).

All Star Tennis
All Star Tennis create a fun-active learning environment, where children enjoy developing their tennis skills and learn to play. Children progress and develop their game with appropriate court sizes, rackets and softer balls. Our courses are for all abilities and are based on the internationally recognised LTA Mini Tennis Scheme.

Horiman Museum – Robot Zoo
This family-friendly exhibition features larger-than-life animals that have been innovatively recreated using a variety of familiar machine parts and gadgets to reveal how their real life counterparts see, eat, hunt and hide. Interactive exhibits also give you the chance to try jet-propelled squid racing, shoot a chameleon’s ‘tongue-gun’ and even design your own ‘mutant’ robot creature.

Polish Music School in London
The first Polish Music School in London and UK is opening in September and will be based in Streatham Library. Polish children who are interested in joining the school are invited to apply for a place. Please visit the Polish School of Music in London website for more information.
Hitherfield Children’s Centre
Hiterfield Children’s Centre is holding family sessions for parents and their children over the February half term. Sessions are between 9.30am – 11.30am and 1.00pm – 3.00pm. This is available for all children under 8 years and they must be accompanied by their parents/carers. Every session includes a wide range of indoor and outdoor activities for you and your child to enjoy together.

Science Museum – Robots Exhibition
Tickets are £15 for adults (with donation), £13 for concessions. Family tickets are available and there is free entry for children aged seven and under.
All tickets are for designated time slots to help manage visitor numbers during busy times.
Sister n Sport – Netball Skills School
The Sisters n Sport Netball Skills Schools are fun, non-competitive netball sessions
for girls aged between 6 – 13 years of age and cover basic netball skills, positional play and
terminology for beginners but also provide opportunity to develop individual skills,
learn new tactics and challenge more experienced players in an relaxed and
Mad Science – Holiday Camp
Mad Science for kids hold Holiday Camps for children aged 4 to 11. The children explore topics with unique hands on activities and amazing demos by skilled trained instructors.

Funky Moves hold dance workshops, classes and holiday courses.
The Easter Holiday Course is being held from 9.30am to 12.30pm Monday to Thursday over a two week period. The first week is aimed at 4 to 12 year old and the second is for 3 to 9 year olds. The course costs £105+VAT for one child and £100+VAT for additional siblings. The days are split up into different fun activities all based around a theme, including arts & crafts, learning a dance, playing games, fancy dress and even a special break dance workshop and performance on one of the days.

Surrey County Cricket Club – Pride of Lions Junior Membership
Surrey County Cricket Club aim to provide the best opportunities to get children involved in Cricket.
The Pride of Lions Junior Membership for under 16 year-olds at Surrey CCC includes free access to over 40 days of domestic cricket at the Kia Oval and when Surrey play away at Guildford Cricket Club. Members receive a Membership pack, special Surrey ‘Bowled Over’ card game, shop vouchers plus access to exclusive events, International tickets, access to the Pride of Lions Website and more for only £20.

This May half term, budding junior cricketers are invited to join one of the specialist courses at the Surrey Cricket Centre, Guildford, where they will be focusing on some key skills of the game.

Dulwich Youth Orchestra
The Dulwich Youth Orchestra (DYO) offers exceptional opportunities to orchestral musicians, aged 7 – 18, grade 2 – 8+. If you live in or around South London, then this is the right place for holiday music courses. DYO, established for 40 years, meets for five mornings (9.20 – 1.00) each school holiday and presents a concert on the last day. Bursaries are available. A two day creative music course open to Years 5 & 6 pupils is usually held during the School Holidays with Animate Lambeth.
Players of any instrument or anyone interested in music technology is welcome – there is no minimum standard required, just an enthusiasm for creating new music! For more information click here.
Battersea Arts Centre
Battersea Arts Centre hold many activities for children including the Bee’s Knees an indoor play space for children 0-5 years and their parents and carers. On the last Saturday of each month they hold a Family Saturday where children aged 0 to 12 years and their families can enjoy a day of fun, food and FREE activities. Furzedown Recreation Centre – Football Holiday Courses
Furzedown Recreation Centre holds five-day football courses throughout the holiday periods, all year round. At the end of the course participants receive a certificate and medal.

Henry Cavendish Running Club
Our running club is free to join as part of the PTFA Sports Initiatives for our children. The club is held from 8.00am every Wednesday and is open to all Year 1-6 Balham & Streatham pupils. Y1-2 parents need to stay, Y3-6 parents welcome to stay.
No previous running experience or ability needed, just your enthusiasm!
Children will be walked back to school, ready for 8:55am start.

Lambeth Summer Camps
The Lambeth Summer Camps are part of the Parallel Youth Enterprise (PYE) which is a ‘not for profit’ voluntary organisation and, in partnership with Lambeth Police and others, provides an extensive programme of Summer sports and workshop activities for several hundred 9 to 16 year old inner city young people from Lambeth each year.
The Lambeth Summer Camps will run on weekdays from 25th July to 17 August 2017 and cost £140/170 per week
